Stretching 30 miles
alongside the path of the old Nickel Plate Railroad, the historic
Nickel Plate Arts Trail offers much more than just art –
it’s an experience in Midwestern Americana. Featuring local
artisans, suburban and rural communities, and special events, the trail
begins in Fishers in southern Hamilton County and continues northward
to Noblesville, Cicero, Arcadia, and Atlanta, ending in Tipton in
southern Tipton County.
Whether travelers enjoy art, food, history or all three, the Nickel
Plate Arts Trail is an opportunity to enjoy all that each of its six
communities has to offer. The trail features traditional artisans,
culinary artisans and unique dining, performance arts, and unique
lodging. Click on the towns on the map for complete listings.
Something that makes this trail especially unique is the variety of
ways that it can be accessed.
Trail by Rail
The Indiana
Transportation Museum’s excursions along the Nickel Plate
Rail Line drop passengers at several spots along the trail, giving them
a taste of the early 20th century when the railroad was in use.
By Road
The main artery of the Nickel Plate Arts
Trail extends from Allisonville Road in Fishers to SR 19 in Noblesville
and continues north to Cicero, Arcadia, Atlanta, and Tipton, making it
easily accessible by car as well.
Drivers can start the trail at Conner Prairie, an interactive history
park in Fishers, then take the trail to downtown Noblesville’s
unique shops and dining, continuing on to northern Hamilton County and
Tipton where travelers will experience impromptu American Indian Flute
performances, music halls, traditional art galleries, performing arts
theatres, and exceptional pies.
By River
The final way to access the Nickel Plate
Arts Trail is by kayak or canoe. Visitors looking for a “heritage
adventure trip” can rent a canoe or drop in their own kayak in
Noblesville, then follow the White River northward, traveling the way
the local Indians and pioneers used to. Kayaks are also available for
rent on Morse Reservoir in Cicero and Noblesville for a more placid lake
experience.
The Nickel Plate Arts Trail is a 30-mile traditional, inspiring
learning adventure. No matter the mode of transportation, the trail
will be a memory to return to often.
We invite you two explore all of the trails six great communities:
family-friendly Fishers, historically quaint
Noblesville, Cicero on the waterfront, the historic gas boom
towns of Arcadia and Atlanta,
and finally, Tipton, a town that values its
local performing arts. |
